OCC Commissions
The work of the Council is done through:
- The Faith & Order Commission, which hosts an annual Ohio Ministries Convocation, sponsors dialogues and educational events and enables the Christian community to better understand theological issues and how we can work together as members of the body of Christ.
- The Justice & Advocacy Commission, which releases Policy statements on critical issues confronting church and society today. We legislatively advocate on issues at the state level and meet frequently with public officials to ensure our collective voice is heard.
- We network with ecumenical constituencies around the state and offer support. We seek to create opportunities for common work and ministry and reach out to secular structures in order to promote the well-being of all people.
The Faith and Order Commission functions as the theological arm of the Ohio Council of Churches. It helps develop and sponsor events providing opportunities for study and reflection. These events take the form of state-wide and regional seminars, conferences and workshops on topics ranging from shared communion and baptism to issues of justice, poverty, and peace. One of the major yearly events sponsored is the Ohio Ministries Convocation (OMC).
Social advocacy is undertaken by the OCC in response to member denominations' desire to address particular social justice issues by establishing task forces and special committees.
